He Will Make A Way: Suggestions For Living

Are you at an impasse?  Have you come to a place where there seems no way out? You can’t go back, and you cannot see what’s ahead?

The Old Testament book of Exodus spans 81 years, and tells the story of Israel through Moses’ eyes.  When this book was penned, the pyramids already existed, and Egypt was renowned for their sciences, literature, art, religion and long established customs.

It is interesting to think of the first ones who would have read or heard the accounts of Exodus. Most likely, it was the children and grandchildren of the slaves who dared to leave Egypt with Moses. Their parents and grandparents made the impossible journey, and with Moses crossed beyond the sea into the wilderness. Now, this throng of people stood on the verge of entering the Promised Land of Canaan. Still they faced difficult choices, with seemingly no easy way to go.

The book of Exodus tells of many other events in the lives of these same people:

  • Their choices that resulted in their wilderness wanderings.
  • They were the first to eat manna – the daily provision from God.
  • They followed the cloud by day and pillar of fire by night: a providential provision of direction and guidance.
  • They were there when God gave Moses the 10-Commandments: they were the first ones to know of God’s expectations and decrees.
  • They experienced many manifestations of God’s presence.

By now you may ask, “So, what does this have to do with me anyway?”

So many around us are at an impasse; life seems like gridlock! Does this describe you or someone you love? So what DO you do, and where DO you find encouragement?

The Bible says:

  • Ps. 77:19 – You [God] made a way through the sea and paths through the deep waters, but Your footprints were not seen. You led your people like a flock by using Moses and Aaron.
  • Isaiah 43:19 – I [the Lord] will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
  • Colossians 4:2-3—When  you pray, keep alert and be thankful. Be sure to pray that God will make a way.
  • Isaiah 11:15 – The Lord will utterly . . . make a way to cross on foot.
  • I Corinthians 10:13 – God is faithful…. He will make a way.

This sentence is a paraphrase of I Corinthians 10:13. Write it on a card, putting your name in the blank spaces:

____________ can trust God. He will not let ______________ be tested more than he/she can stand. But when ______________is tested, He will also make a way out so that ________________ can bear it.

Be sure to keep this in a place where you can read it often.

Lyrics of a brief chorus says it this way:

God Will Make A Way

God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my Guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way.

By a roadway in the wilderness, He'll lead me
And rivers in the desert will I see
Heaven and earth will fade
But His Word will still remain
He will do something new today.

God will make a way,
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my Guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way.
