Have you spent time searching and not getting the results you expected? Do you feel you should be doing something differently than just filling out endless amounts of on-line applications never to hear back from the companies? Do you wonder what you could be doing differently to move your job search forward? The job market has changed dramatically over the last three years and many candidates have failed to adjust their search strategy to compensate for this change. If you are conducting a traditional or passive job search, chances are you are not receiving much response from your resume submissions. If you are starting to ask yourself if something is wrong with you, it may be time for you to re-evaluate your current strategy. I have a few suggestions for job seekers that may help jump start your job search.
1) Take a look at the industry as a whole, not just from the openings they have in your area. Many companies don’t post every territory they have open when placing ads.
2) Always try to find a decision maker to send your resume to. It works. At the very least it will be opened, at best, forwarded to someone to interview you!
3) Think outside the box. Who is going to be hiring next? Have you considered tracking new drug approvals on the FDA website and marketing yourself to those companies? Any company launching a product will need a sales team!
