My Medical Device Sales Career

Do you have Faith? What is Faith? Faith is believing without seeing. Works are dependent upon actions. In today's economic crisis, many of us have lost faith and perhaps you've lost your desire to work?
Some of us depend strictly on Faith to get us through life. We say, "If God wants this for me" or "If it is meant to be things will fall into place and I don't need to do anything". Some of us depend strictly on our work. We say, "If I work hard the opportunities will come or I don't need anyone, I am smart
enough or work hard enough to get ahead". We fail to experience fulfillment in life because we tend to exist on one side or the other of extreme. The truth: Neither extreme will lead you to success. We can change our game by pursuing proper balance in our lives between faith and works.
What are the "Principles for Pursuing Proper Balance"?
  1. Develop Dependence - You can't win alone, you must submit to the fact that you depend on others and if you believe in God, you absolutely understand that you must depend on Him. Ask your network for help. I just spoke with an HR professional out of work last week. She has a masters degree and dozens of top level executive contacts, however when I asked her if she requested help from any of these people, she replied, "no". She didn't want to seem desperate or put anyone in an awkward position by asking for help. You must let go of pride and/or fear. To put this is simple term, "You don't get what you don't request".
  2. Develop Discipline - Have you ever met an an athlete who never trains but is successful? Have you ever spoken to a CEO and learned that He or She just had faith and one day they landed this job with no work experience or credentials? Of course not, so why would anyone expect to land a great job that they aren't qualified for? If you want a job in marketing, make sure you have the education or experience to land that job. Don't use the excuse you have to get a job to get experience. You can gain experience through volunteering or internships. You can also contact companies to work on a contract basis, filling in for someone on family leave. You are never too old for any of these options.
  3. Develop Determination - Stand firm! Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work you are doing and know that your labor is not in vain. Regardless of what you are doing, do your best! Prepare yourself for the next opportunity and don't sit idle blaming others for your failures. Stop making excuses for why you aren't getting what you want out of life. Get up and get going!

These principles hold true when developing and maintaining relationships, finances and success. Many people fail because they can't find balance between faith and work. Works are easier to hold onto because you can see the results. Faith is what will get you to the next level. You have to take a chance and believe that your work will be rewarded and keep striving toward a better life even when your can't see with your eyes what is ahead. I am not asking you to do anything that I am not doing myself. I too must have faith that my training and hard work will be rewarded and I know it will be.

For my Christian readers or those who are curious:
James 2:17 - "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead".
1 Corinthians 15:58 - "Therefore my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not vain".

Thanks Anissa...GREAT article, balance between faith and work. Many career blogs do not address the faith aspect of our lives and I find those that have a strong foundation do handle unemployment and the other challanges in life at a different level and do find a peace through the turbulence of life. I have been with a friend that you and I both know well who was just diagnosed with Breast Cancer, a leader in the medical industry AND a strong Christian. I sat beside her yesterday (with her husband) at the cancer center as they explained her life saving options. The above principals I witnessed in her actions based upon her strong places losing a job in perspective.

Timely piece and I thank you, as I am sure our other readers will as well.
